What Is Advocacy?
Advocacy is any action that speaks in favor of, recommends, and supports or defends on behalf of others.
The Importance of Literacy
Reading is the foundation of learning. A child who learns to read is set up for success throughout school and in life. Literacy opens the door to school achievement, graduation, employment, healthcare and home acquisition.
Did You Know?
The number of books in the home correlates with significantly higher reading scores for children.
Students who choose what they read tend to be more motivated, read more, and show greater language and literacy development.
Children who are read to at least three times a week are almost twice as likely to score in the top 25% in reading.
How Can You Be an Advocate for Your Child?
With you as an advocate, your child can become a strong reader and learner and learn how to advocate for child! These are skills that will serve your child throughout their lifetime!
Tips for the Caregiver
Get a library membership and visit the library together regularly.
Talk to your child’s teacher about how your child is doing.
Get involved with your local PTA and share with other parents.
Ask your child’s teacher about audiobooks.
Model and support your child in asking for what they need.
